Bulletin no. 01 Repair, don't replace

Broken today.
Working tomorrow.

We repair domestic electrical and electronic appliances in homes across Singapore — and we tell you plainly when a unit is not worth the money.

Most appliances that stop working have not died. They have a failed pump, a tired element, a blocked filter or a switch that no longer closes — parts that cost a fraction of a replacement and take an afternoon to fit.

The trouble is knowing which is which. That is what our visit is for: we test the unit in front of you, name the failed component, and put a figure on the table before anything is dismantled.

If the number does not make sense against a new machine, we will say so. We would rather lose one job than sell you a repair that fails again by Christmas.

What we open,
test and repair.

Household units across all the usual brands. Anything that plugs in and heats, cools, spins or pumps is likely on this list — and if it is not listed, ask anyway.

A·01 Refrigerators & freezers Not cooling, freezing everything solid, water pooling at the base, loud compressor, perished door seals. Relay · Thermostat · Seal
A·02 Washing machines Will not spin or drain, leaking onto the floor, drum rumble, door locked shut, error code on the display. Pump · Belt · Bearing
A·03 Tumble dryers Full cycle and the clothes are still damp, no heat at all, drum not turning, cutting out partway through. Element · Vent · Cut-out
A·04 Ovens & cookers One side browning faster, no heat, temperature nowhere near the dial, failed hinges or door glass. Element · Fan · Timer
A·05 Microwave ovens Lights and hums but leaves food cold, sparking inside the cavity, turntable stopped, keypad dead. Magnetron · Diode · Switch
A·06 Dishwashers Standing water in the base, cloudy results, leaking at the door, stopping mid-cycle with a beep. Pump · Spray arm · Valve
A·07 Water heaters No hot water, lukewarm only, tripping the breaker on switch-on, or dripping from the tank body. Element · Thermostat · Leak
A·08 Induction & ceramic hobs Zones not heating, error codes on the panel, cracked glass top, touch controls ignoring you, fan noise. Coil · Glass · Touch panel
A·09 Small appliances Kettles, blenders, air fryers, rice cookers, coffee machines and vacuums — where parts remain available. Motor · Element · Switch
A·10 Fans & ventilation Ceiling, standing and exhaust fans plus cooker hoods — motors, capacitors, switches and wiring faults. Motor · Capacitor · Wiring
A·11 Appliance electrical faults Units tripping the breaker, burning smells, intermittent power — traced back to the appliance or its circuit. Leakage · Cord · Terminal
Not our trade

Audio and video equipment falls outside what we handle. Televisions, speakers, amplifiers, projectors and media players need a specialist AV repairer — if you call us about one, we will tell you so rather than take the booking.

Section B Before you call anybody

The sixty-second
checklist.

A fair share of callouts end with something the owner could have cleared in a minute. Run these five checks first. If the fault survives all five, it is a real one — and that is when we are worth calling.

Owner's pre-call check Five items · one minute
01 · Power at the socket

Plug something you know works into the same socket. If that is dead too, the fault is the circuit, not the appliance.

02 · The consumer unit

Check whether a breaker or RCD has tripped. Reset it once. If it trips again immediately, stop and leave the appliance off.

03 · Doors and latches

Washers, dryers, dishwashers and microwaves will not run unless the door switch closes fully. Open and shut it firmly once.

04 · Filters and lint traps

Clear the washer's pump filter, the dryer's lint trap and the dishwasher's basket. Blockages mimic expensive faults remarkably well.

05 · A full power cycle

Switch off at the wall, wait two minutes, switch on again. Control boards latch onto errors and often clear on a proper reset.

All five checked and still faulty? Now call us.

Two things that are not on the list. Do not open a sealed appliance yourself, and do not keep running a unit that trips the breaker, smells of burning or sparks. Both are the point at which curiosity gets expensive.

Switch it off at the socket, leave it alone, and let us look. Fault-finding on a live appliance is the part you are paying a technician for.

Section C How a callout proceeds

From your call
to a working unit.

Most single-appliance repairs are settled in one visit. Where a part has to be ordered, the wait is quoted before you commit to anything.

01

You describe it

Call or message with the brand, model and what the unit is doing. A photo of the rating plate — inside the door or on the back panel — saves everyone a round of guessing.

02

We book a window

You pick a time that suits, including evenings and weekends. The technician calls before setting off, so you are not waiting in all afternoon.

03

Diagnosis on site

Supply, controls, motor, heating and drainage are tested in front of you. You get told which component has failed, in words rather than part numbers.

04

Quote in writing

Parts and labour, on paper, before anything is taken apart. If we find something further inside, we stop and ask before continuing.

05

Repair

Approve it and most repairs are completed the same visit from stock carried on the van. Ordered parts are fitted on a second, scheduled call.

06

Test and hand back

A full cycle is run with you watching, the work area is cleared, and the warranty period is written on your invoice before we leave.

Section D From recent callouts

Plates from
the field.

Replace these placeholders with your own photographs. The opened unit, the failed part beside its replacement, and the finished test cycle are the three that reassure people most.

Section E Correspondence

Questions we
answer daily.

If yours is not printed here, call and ask. We would rather spend two minutes on the phone than have you guess at it.

Do you charge just to come and look?

There is a call-out and diagnosis fee, and we tell you the figure when you book rather than on the doorstep. It is waived when you proceed with the repair, so most customers pay only for the work itself.

Will it be fixed on the same visit?

Usually. Common parts travel with the technician. If yours needs something ordered in, you get the expected wait and the cost before committing.

Original parts or aftermarket?

Original manufacturer parts where they are available and sensibly priced, equivalent-grade replacements where they are not. Either way you are told which is going in before it is fitted.

What if it is not worth repairing?

Then we say so and explain why. Plenty of visits end with a recommendation to replace rather than repair — that answer is part of what the diagnosis buys you.

Is the work covered afterwards?

Workmanship and any parts we supply are warranted for the period printed on your invoice. If the same fault returns inside that window, we come back to it.

The appliance keeps tripping the breaker.

Treat that as urgent. Switch it off at the socket and stop using it. Repeated tripping, a burning smell or visible sparking all point to a fault that should not be left running.

Can you repair my television?

No. Audio and video equipment is outside our trade, so televisions, speakers, amplifiers, projectors and media players need a specialist AV repairer.

Which areas do you cover?

Islandwide across Singapore — HDB flats, condominiums, landed homes and small commercial premises running domestic-grade equipment.

Diagnosis

Confirmed at booking, waived when you proceed with the repair.

Quotation

Parts and labour in writing before anything is dismantled.

Parts

Original where available, equivalent grade where not. Stated either way.

Warranty

Workmanship and supplied parts, for the period printed on your invoice.

Hours

Weekday, evening and weekend slots. Same-day subject to availability.

Payment

PayNow, bank transfer or cash on completion, against an itemised invoice.

Section F Contact

Brand, model,
and what it does.

The rating plate carries everything we need. Send a photograph of it with your message and we can often narrow the fault before arriving.
